Each charity had numerous items on offer for visitors to purchase, including food, toys and home-made jewellery.

Additional entertainment was provided by the Rebellion Allstar cheerleaders, who performed a routine as part of their preparation for the Island Games opening ceremony.

Friends of Maggie’s cancer support chairman Peter Walsh said that the charity’s stall had received considerable interest over the course of the afternoon.

‘We’ve sold some woodwork clocks which were very kindly donated to us by Nick Domaille, as well as some home-made sausage rolls and cakes.

‘People have been very keen to pick up our leaflets and find out more about us and the work we do for cancer patients both here and in Southampton.’

Headway services director Orla-Marie Manning said that the afternoon had promoted a great sense of community among the charities, as well as those visiting the stalls.

‘It’s a great opportunity to increase awareness about the amazing work that each charity does.

‘Being part of the association is brilliant in terms of the exposure we are able to get.’

She added that the charity’s giant ‘Connect 4’ game had proven popular with younger visitors.

Men’s wellbeing charity Men’s Shed Guernsey had a range of hand-made magnets, goblets, trivets and jewellery on sale.

Charity chairman Derrick Thatcher said the fete was a good opportunity to network and garner more publicity.

‘Often men find it very difficult to talk about their feelings.

‘Our charity provides an opportunity for guys to socialise, chat about anything that’s on their mind, and learn some new skills.’
