Vale Primary teachers Ali Higgins, Tom Vaudin and Kerri Brown will be representing Guernsey in javelin, football and basketball throughout the week, starting on Saturday 8 July and finishing on Friday 14.

To mark the competition, pupils and staff grouped together to create a mural of a puffin and Guernsey flag, using a painted fingerprint from every member of the school to bring the piece to life.

The pupils painted the puffin and the teachers the flag, with the project taking two weeks to complete.

‘I remember when I was little and it was the Island Games in Guernsey, there were so many memories that stuck with me, so I wanted something that will stick with the kids,’ said Year 1 teacher Becky Ashworth, who co-ordinated the mural.

As well as creating the artwork, all classes were given a member island to draw their flag and learn about, before going to other classes to deliver speeches and presentations on their findings, and took different island flags to their sports day.

The children said that they were now inspired to see some of the events.
