St James Tattoo Expo returns
ST JAMES will showcase the best of the island’s tattooing talent both today and tomorrow, as it hosts the second annual Tattoo Expo.
The concert hall is being temporarily registered as a tattoo parlour, with a total of 16 artists demonstrating their expertise on over 50 clients.
The expo runs from 11am until 6pm on both days, with most slots already booked up, but St James director Jon Bisson said that a few spaces would still be available on a first come, first served basis on both days.
‘The 16 artists is two more than last year, while we also have four artists coming over from Jersey. I think some people who are new to tattoos can find regular studios a bit intimidating, so hopefully holding this event will encourage those interested in getting a tattoo to come forward.’
He added that getting a licence for the event had been painless and straightforward.
‘We’ve had really constructive talks with the licensing authority, and we’ve been able to demonstrate that it can be done in a sterile environment, so we are optimistic that it will be a success.’
What was not likely to be painless and straightforward, however, was some of the designs, with Mr Bisson saying that some of the artists would be undertaking huge projects.
‘There will be one artist working solely on one person for the whole weekend.
‘I can’t wait to see what the end results will be.’
