Taking place in fields at Rue des Paysans, St Peter’s, this will be the show’s sixth year.

Despite the recent wet weather, organising committee president Ron Le Cras said the showground was doing all right. ‘The ground is fine. We don’t get too much of a problem here. The fields drain very well.’

Sheep racing will be taking place as usual, with races at 2, 2.20, 2.40 and 3pm.

The weather might mean a delayed arrival to some of the attractions, though.

A vintage funfair paid its first visit to the event last year and is on its way back, this time with bigger rides alongside the traditional carousel and others.

Steam engines are also on their way to the island from the UK, including a big ‘showman’s engine’ which will be making its first visit, as well as a rack saw with a 4ft blade that is used for cutting up tree trunks.

The event will also see the return of family favourites such as the barley threshing in a field especially planted for the weekend, animal tents and many stalls.

Among the groups attending the show will be Guernsey Trees for Life, which will have members on-hand to promote its tree and hedge planting and supply schemes.

It will also be appealing for more sites suitable for the planting of at least 30 native trees or 50m of native hedging.

The group will also be looking for volunteers to help plant later in the year.

Backed by principal sponsor Channel Islands Fuels and secondary sponsor BNP Paribas, the group offers to supply and plant native and naturalised trees on suitable land.

Admission is £8 for adults and £4 for children and parking is free.

The show is open from 10am to 11pm on Saturday, and from 10am to 6.30pm on Sunday.
