Utmost’s Islands Games team mascot Darcy the Donkey, St John Guernsey’s Bertie Badger, Butterfield’s Vern the Wyvern, cricket’s Owlzat the Owl and rugby’s Rocky the Raider will be among the entrants tackling a friendly obstacle course. Organised in collaboration with the Guernsey Sports Commission, the free event will provide more than 20 sports to try, including boxing, climbing, golf, skateboarding, fencing, football, cricket, netball, badminton and cycling. Everyone is invited regardless of age and ability.

‘We are excited about the return of the mascot challenge for the Utmost Community Sports Funday this year,’ said Sports Commission communications director Nicky Will.

‘This is a great opportunity for the community to come and have fun with their children, get involved with the mascot challenge, cheer them on and get photos with their favourites too. There are many benefits to both our physical and mental health that taking part in sport provides, and we want to encourage people of all ages and sporting abilities within the community to come along and have a go.’

Utmost International Guernsey CEO Leon Steyn said that he was thrilled to bring back the mascot challenge. ‘We hope the community will be excited to engage in the Funday again this year and learn more about staying healthy and energised,’ he said.

The event takes place on Saturday at Saumarez Park. It will begin at noon. The mascot challenge takes place at 1pm. The day ends at 4pm. Admission is free.
