Kidnapped pirate back home but needs patching up

A SIX-FOOT pirate statue that disappeared from its home in Mount Row on Saturday has been found, but is a bit the worse for wear after its ordeal.

The figure was one of two Playmobil plastic characters – the other was an office worker in a suit – bought for twins Mason and Alara Eggimann.

‘We have a large driveway and both sides have a big fence,’ said the twins’ grandmother, Susan Bradbury, who lives at the same address.

‘The figures stood either side, tucked in as far from the entrance as possible.’

She was woken up in the early hours of Saturday morning by a noise outside which she said sounded like someone in the driveway. But when she got dressed and went out to check, she found no sign of anyone.

Nobody noticed anything was missing until her son returned home and realised the pirate had gone.

‘The twins were both crying, saying “someone’s taken our pirate”,’ said Mrs Bradbury.

She contacted the police who said someone would be sent around to investigate.

Before that could happen, however, on Sunday, the Joint Emergency Services Control Room made contact and said the pirate had been spotted in Back Street.

A Facebook message was also received, saying that it had been taken in by someone who lived there and was waiting for collection.

Eventually, Mrs Bradbury’s son was able to pick up the figure and return it to its rightful place.

‘The twins are as pleased as punch that they got it back,’ she said.

It was damaged during its adventure, with the bandana and hat broken off, but Mrs Bradbury said hopefully they can be fixed back in place.

A police spokesman said enquiries into the theft are ongoing.
