Representatives from the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, Man Club, and the Guernsey Welfare Service were on hand to collect the money at an event at BWCI’s offices, with each charity receiving £1,500.

The swim, which was held at the beginning of August, saw more than 600 islanders swim from the slipway below Castle Cornet across Havelet Bay to the Horseshoe Pool at La Vallette.

Sponsorship coordinator for the event Kevin Penney paid tribute to the volunteers and officials who helped organise the swim.

‘It was definitely a success and certainly on a par with last year. We always try to get involved with local charities so that the money raised stays on-island.’

He thanked BWCI for sponsoring the event, and said that planning for next year’s swim was already under way.

‘The date and chosen charities should be announced before the end of this year.’
