Guernsey Arts has partnered with Guille-Alles Library to loan out its two battery-operated amps to musicians, using their library card and busking permit.

The aim of the initiative is to make busking more accessible to all musicians, by ensuring they can access free equipment. The amps can be loaned out for up to five days and can be used in any of the approved busking locations in Town.

‘We want to inject vibrancy into Town,’ said Grace Stevens, Guernsey Arts’ community arts development coordinator.

Guernsey Arts is hoping that not only will it contribute to an atmospheric High Street, but also provide performers with a place to get their voice heard and an opportunity for them to gain experience.

‘Busking is a fantastic way to create additional vibrancy within our Town, and Guernsey Arts wants to help promote this form of public art as much as possible,’ said Jade Kershaw, Guernsey Arts’ community and public realm officer.

‘We are delighted to be partnering with the Guille-Alles Library on this initiative for this reason – to improve accessibility to the arts for our community. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this equipment for performers locally, and encourage the public to support

buskers out and about in St Peter Port.’

The amps form part of Guille-Alles’ ‘library of things’ collection as well as supporting community arts.

‘The library is committed to promoting creativity and the arts, and we’re proud to be partnering with Guernsey Arts on this initiative to make busking more accessible for local performers. The amps form part of our "library of things" collection, along with litter pickers, bat detectors, and other physical objects available for loan. To borrow one, all you need is a library card – it’s free to sign up in the library or online,’ said Adam Bayfield, head of marketing and customer services at Guille-Alles.
