The annual event encourages workplaces, businesses and organisations to hold their own events to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers.

The Bright Tights Guernsey charity supports islanders affected by these cancers and supports research into prevention, early diagnosis and treatment.

For the second year running the wife of the Lt-Governor, Louise Cripwell, invited committee and support group members to Government House for a breakfast.

‘We are delighted that Mrs Cripwell offered to host our launch breakfast again this year,’ said charity chairwoman Dr Jo Le Noury.

‘Bright Tights Day is an important date in our calendar as it gives the opportunity to highlight the signs and symptoms of the five different gynaecological cancers and highlight the support we can offer to those who have been affected.’

‘It’s a lovely group to be involved with because they are so positive,’ said Mrs Cripwell.

It was a timely gathering, too, in the wake of recent news of a breakthrough in the treatment of cervical cancer.

Bright Tights Day will once again start with a breakfast swim at the Bathing Pools from 6.30am and later on Mrs Child will be hosting an afternoon tea to mark the end of her time as chairwoman.

‘The exciting thing about this year is that we’ve been given an Island Games legacy grant and we’ve started our first balance and strength sessions,’ said Dr Le Noury.

A six-week course took place at the KGV clubhouse thanks to the grant, and she said that the charity was already looking at how these could continue.
