Storm Ciaran pounds Guernsey

NEARLY 30 trees are confirmed to have fallen and more reports of damage are coming in, as Strom Ciaran continues to rage.

Islanders woke up to Force nine winds - nearly 80mph this morning.

The wind has swung around to the west. With high tide due just before 9am, the west coast is expected to suffer severe flooding this morning. Perelle coast road is already inundated.

Bailiwick Law Enforcement has warned islanders to stay at home.

'We’re currently seeing far more vehicles on the roads than we’d like to from a public safety perspective, and we’re receiving many more calls for support in the last hour,' BLE reported on social media.

Overnight 12 trees have fallen in Rue Charruee, as well as more trees down in Queen’s Road, St Julian’s Avenue, Le Vauquiedor, Kings Mills and Val des Terres.

Traffic & Highway Services has also confirmed that Rue des Deslisle, Route des Capelles, Route de St Andre, Les Ozouets, Route de la Ramee, Route de Cobo, La Route de Sausmarez and Landes du Marche are also shut.

There have been reports of damage to Guernsey Housing Association properties in the Bouet

Ambulances were able to reach four medical calls during the night.

Jersey appears to have been hit much more severely by the storm - three people have been taken to hospital and more than 40 people displaced from their homes.
