Guernsey Development Agency wants views on future of east coast
THE Guernsey Development Agency is appealing to islanders to help it to shape the future of the east coast by completing an online survey.
The GDA was formally set up by the States in July, to deliver developments along the east coast between the Aquarium and Salerie Corner, and between Longue Hougue and Vale Castle, in line with proposed Harbour Action Areas.
GDA chairman Peter Watson said it would welcome contributions from anyone who wanted to have input into the future of the east coast.
‘We really want to engage with as many members of the public as possible,’ he said. ‘We view ourselves as the people’s agency, so we want to do what the people want.’
The online form has two sections, one for St Peter Port and one for St Sampson’s, takes between five to 10 minutes to complete, and can be filled in anonymously.
The survey data will then be published in January and shared with the public.
‘We will study in detail the results and work them into plans for the east coast,’ he said. ‘So it’s really important we hear the public’s views on what they think should be prioritised, so that these ideas can be fed into the formal process of preparing the local planning brief.’
The survey went live today and is available until 12 December.
It can be found at www.surveymonkey.com/r/GuernseyDevelopmentAgency.
A video explaining the work of the GDA and the survey can be found at www.gda.gg.
The States has set five key objectives for any development, intending to provide infrastructure that:
protects Guernsey’s east coast and harbours from current and future environmental threats;
develops modern and resilient harbours;
provides transport solutions;
supports housing;
and promotes existing business activity and creates economic opportunities.
The survey was developed in collaboration with the GDA, States of Guernsey and Tibbalds Planning and Urban Design agency, which has been appointed to prepare the local planning brief for the St Peter Port and St Sampson Harbour Action Areas.
