Welsh Male Voice Choir perform at Le Friquet
THE foyer of Le Friquet Garden Centre was crammed with shoppers on Saturday as they stopped to listen to a local choir.
The Guernsey Welsh Male Voice choir has been around for several years but has particularly grown in recognition since it performed live on the pitch at a Six Nations game earlier this year.
Members of the choir took to the garden centre to perform a set of Christmas songs and carols, including a few in Welsh.
‘It was great fun. I really didn’t expect so many people to stop and listen, we expected people to just walk in and carry on walking so that was absolutely wonderful,’ said conductor Fiona Le Tissier.
‘It was a really lovely environment to sing in and it was our first year here, so hopefully we can come back again next year.’
Accompanied by a pianist, the crowd sang along with the choir as shoppers struggled to squeeze in and out of the doors.
People also spilled outside of the garden centre, listening on the pathway in the light rain.
Ms Le Tissier said that the choir did not have too much to prepare as everyone knew the songs so well and had been performing them for years.
Just a few practice sessions were required to put the set together.
The Guernsey Welsh Male Voice Choir also made its annual appearance at Specsavers earlier in the week to sing Christmas carols.
