G-OATR had not flown since Boxing Day and appears to have been the reason for the airline cancelling flights to and from Birmingham on Wednesday and long delays to flights to and from Bristol, Exeter and Dublin, which continued into yesterday.

The last flight on Wednesday evening arrived in Guernsey just before 11pm and extra ‘rescue’ flights had to be scheduled yesterday to bring home islanders stranded in the Midlands.

Flights continued to be disrupted yesterday, with the cancellation of the 9.35am flight to Gatwick and other flights delayed by up to three hours. It meant another late night opening at the airport.

An Aurigny spokesman said the airline wished to apologise to travellers for any disruption faced.

‘Primarily this has been due to technical faults with two of our aircraft which are now back in service. Recent high winds and difficult weather conditions have also contributed their own complications,’ he said.

‘We have worked as hard as we can during this period to make sure all our customers have been found alternative arrangements to reach their destinations, including by scheduling extra flights where possible.

‘We continue to keep passengers up to date on any necessary changes to our schedule and would recommend that travellers continue to monitor our Facebook page, and their email inboxes, to get the latest updates on flight times. We would also like to thank them again for bearing with us during this disruption.’

Condor sailings continue to be disrupted by Strom Gerrit.

The ferry company has now cancelled its high speed service between St Malo, the Channel Islands and Poole today and tomorrow due to forecasted high seas and high wind speeds.

An amended service will operate on Friday between St Malo and Jersey only.

Freight services on the Islander, Clipper and Goodwill have already been affected by the storm this week, but are scheduled to run as normal today.
