Three 'outstanding' islanders recognised in New Year Honours list
Three deserving members of the Guernsey community have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list – two of them with strong ‘gold medal’ connections.
His Majesty King Charles III has awarded clematis expert and multi-Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner, Raymond Evison, with a CBE for services to horticulture and to Guernsey. And Julia Bowditch, director of this year’s Island Games in Guernsey, has been awarded an MBE.
Thirdly Vanessa Wakeford, house manager for the Lt-Governor, has been awarded a Silver Royal Victorian Medal for decades of service working at Government House.
Lt General Richard Cripwell said that these awards recognised remarkable service in quite different fields.
‘But what they share is the fact that all three recipients have done so much for the Bailiwick and its reputation. I am sure that islanders will join me in congratulating each of them for their outstanding contributions, which have also enriched the life or our community,’ he said.
The award-winners will be congratulated at the Bailiff’s traditional New Year’s Day Reception at the Royal Court House on Monday.
