Hoarding has been put up around the front of some of the buildings on the Bridge, including the former Health Connections and Go charity shops, while new gates have also been installed.

Omnibus director Charles McHugh confirmed that the Co-op had appointed building contractor Rihoy & Son to enhance the perimeter of Leale’s Yard for security and safety purposes.

He was not able to say when building work on the site might commence, but said that both Omnibus and the Coop were continuing to work with the Development & Planning Authority and the law officers to formalise the outline planning consent for the scheme.

‘A phasing programme for the progress of the development, including the delivery of housing on the site, will be reviewed thereafter,’ he said.

Leale’s Yard was initially bought by the Channel Islands Co-operative Society in 1998.

In April 2022, plans were unveiled to develop more than 300 homes, a new Coop food store, other retail space, a multi-storey car park for more than 300 vehicles and various civic and green areas on the site.

The DPA gave permission for the general principles of the development, but the applicants still need to work through the finer details and bring them before the authority.
