The challenge started at 9am on Saturday, and they walked circuits of Val de Terres, George Road and Havelet to raise money for charity Grow.

The walkers had aimed to complete as many laps as possible to see how many times they could climb the equivalent of K2. Each lap is 1.6km and has 77m of elevation, with a total of 112 laps being the equivalent of the mountain’s 8,611m height.

In the end the 36 participants, accompanied by four dogs, managed to walk a total of 335 laps.

As well as staff doing sections, a couple of the walkers tried do the full 24 hours.

Conditions on Saturday were perfect for the walk bright and sunny, but quite cool, meaning the walkers did not get too hot. But as darkness descended, so did the rain.

Partner David Becker, 49, has been doing ultra running challenges for 10 years and this is his third fundraiser for Grow.

He managed to complete the full 24-hour epic challenge without any sleep.

He had aimed to do 60 laps, but managed to complete about 65.

He celebrated the end of the challenge at 9am on Sunday with a swim at the bathing pools.

Apart from rain at about 11pm it stayed largely dry.

On Saturday night David’s wife treated him to a Chinese, which he ate in his car.

He had been most bothered about getting through the late-night walking, but he was surprised by two partners from Jersey, who flew on Saturday evening especially for the challenge. They walked through the night with him, before flying back to Jersey on Sunday morning.

Partner Jo Huxtable said it was great for the whole firm to get involved and supporting such a good cause.

She did more than 10 laps over three separate stints, including walking between 12.30am and 2.30am

‘It was very dark and quiet, but almost hypnotic,’ she said.

Deloitte Guernsey supports Grow as part of its Five Million Futures initiative – a wider Deloitte strategy which aims to help five million people overcome barriers to education and employment so they can achieve their full potential.

The money will allow Grow to purchase a number of items following the opening of their new facilities.
