Jayne Ozanne has not seen her four-year-old black cat Louie since Monday evening, when she let him out of her temporary home, a bungalow at Vazon.

They are due to move to near Torteval Church on Monday, having only returned from Oxford to live locally at the start of the month.

‘Like you’re meant to do, I kept Louie and my other cat Leo in for two weeks once they got here, but unfortunately Louie hated it,’ she said.

‘There are dogs next door, who bark, and he was finding things in the house too small.’

Ms Ozanne described Louie as being a big, jet black cat, with green eyes and a primordial pouch – the low-hanging flap of skin below a cat’s stomach.

‘He doesn’t like being picked up and isn’t great with men, and really can’t stand dogs and loud noises,’ she said.

‘He’s a hunter and loves chicken. I’ve been going out with chicken and other treats hoping he will pick up the smell of them.’

She said that she had searched extensively around Vazon and La Grande Mare this week, and had received reports of potential sightings of Louie in the area.

‘A lady who lives 10 or 15 doors down has a black cat of her own and told me that another black cat came in to her house and ate her cat’s food – that’s something Louie would do.

‘A farmer who is based on Rue du Gele also said that he’d seen a cat sleeping in one of his sheds – Louie likes to sleep up on high platforms during the day and hunt at night.’

She added that she had been leaving windows of her house open as much as possible in case Louie came back.

‘It’s the first time he has done something like this, in Oxford he never went away overnight.

‘Leo’s been missing him a lot too. I got them from the same breeder so they’re almost like brothers.’
