The road has long had an uneven surface, with the roots of pine trees forcing up the tarmac.

The latest work – which began yesterday – follows the removal of a number of roadside trees last April.

Icart headland car park will be inaccessible for vehicles while the work is being carried out.

Cyclists will be able to cycle through the closure, but must dismount around the work.

St Martin’s junior constable Dave Beausire was thrilled that the resurfacing work was finally getting done.

‘Icart is a major viewing point and a place where people like to take photos, so I’m pleased it’s happening. I just wish the kiosk was up and running too,’ he said.

‘People living near the work have been informed about it as far as I’m aware, and there has been no reason for us to be contacted about anything, so hopefully it all goes smoothly.’

Icart kiosk, which is privately owned, has been shut since 2017.

Icart Road is set to reopen on 1 March.
