The road is set to stay closed indefinitely, as Guernsey Water tries to fix a damaged culvert.

Teams from the utility have been at the site since Friday morning working on the culvert, which is approximately 6ft underground.

A deeper ditch has been dug to allow the teams to assess the problem.

To allow them to work, a small dam has been built at the base of the stream feeding the culvert in order to give a dry space.

Water is now being pumped over the road and into a stream on the other side.

A second stream has been intercepted further up the road and is being pumped away from where the work is taking place.

New pipes are set to be installed where the culvert was, with the culvert itself beyond repair.

Guernsey Water operations manager Jon Holt said that the company’s teams were engineering what was an extensive repair to the culvert inlet.

‘This has been made more difficult due to having to manage the significant flow in the streams which flow into the culvert.’

He added that the teams were working hard to enable the road to be re-opened as quickly as possible.
