Ten-month-old Elbereth Oreokeksi at Lappiness, better known as Oreo, took part in the prestigious dog show on the Saturday and came away with the award of best puppy in the pastoral group as well as a first place in the puppy and junior section of the group.

Mrs Brache said there were 116 Finnish lapphund entries.

The dogs are bred for reindeer herding and they are the only licensed breed in Finland to stay outside all year in temperatures as low as minus 40C.

Oreo was entered after qualifying at the Ladies’ Kennel Association Championship in December.

There are three Finnish lapphunds in Guernsey and one in Jersey, said Mrs Brache.
