Ebenezer Church conversion set for April finish
After standing unused and unloved for more than 30 years, Ebenezer Church is finally nearly ready for its next incarnation.
So far 11 apartments in the church conversion have been completed, and the remaining six should be finished by the end of April.
The former Methodist church in Brock Road, St Peter Port, was built in 1878 and held its last service in 1993.
Planning permission to convert it into apartments was first granted in 2009 and the site was then sold by the Methodist Church in 2012.
However, development of the site then stalled before the latest project started.
When finished, the building will offer 17 one- and two-bed properties, with asking prices from £450,000 to £625,000.
‘Eleven of the units are fully completed. Four we hope will be finished by 5 April and the other two at the end of April,’ said Macob Construction general manager Ugo Nto.
‘We hope to be out of here and people be moving in during May.’
The modern apartments contain features of the church, such as flats on the upper floors containing the original wooden trusses and beams.
Stained-glass windows have been replaced with clear glass, but the window frames and shape remain predominantly the same.
‘Great care has been taken to enhance the original features of the building, including adding bespoke leaded glass to the mullion windows. It has been a labour of love for our vendor but finally, we are able to offer the apartments to the market,’ said Livingroom founder and CEO Simon Torode.
