The Twenty Something Club is a conversation starter

THE efforts of two friends to do more for others in their age group to make friends brought about 30 young women together last weekend for the first official gathering of The Twenty Something Club.

The new group aims to bring together young women who are feeling socially isolated.

There are likely to be a wide variety of reasons for the feeling of isolation.

Those who do not go away to university find their friendship circle diminished as others go away. And those returning after graduating may also feel isolated.

Friends Imi Remfrey, 23, and Sophie Driscoll, 24, founded the local group.

‘There was nothing really over here that provides anything like this,’ said Miss Remfrey.

‘Both of us were coming back after university, but people are at all different stages of life and we found it difficult to find places to meet friends. So we wanted to provide events for girls of similar ages.’

The first event was a Sunday morning coastal walk from Port Soif to the Guet end of Cobo.

Among the people at the first event were friends Louise Grantham, 23, and Hollie Horsepool, 24. They have been friends since school, but said it was hard to find social events to meet new people their age.

‘In our jobs, there are not that many people our age to meet,’ said Miss Horsepool. ‘So this is a really good idea.’

Emily Cooper, 19, was also enjoying meeting new people.

‘Most of my friends went off to university,’ she said. ‘So there was no one my age. This seems really nice.’

More events are planned, such as a brunch.
