‘We wanted to remind everyone we are here’ - St Peter’s market organisers

A market in St Peter’s, which has been running for more than 35 years, is searching for more volunteers and shoppers.

The market takes place every Wednesday morning in the parish’s community hall, selling local produce and handicrafts as well as teas, coffees and cake.

It has been running since at least 1988 and co-organiser Sarah Plumley has been involved for around the last 15 years.

‘We wanted to remind everyone we are here,’ she said.

‘We would also love to here from anyone who wants to volunteer, run stalls or sell their own produce.’

She said the market worked as a co-operative.

‘Everyone who brings things has a share in the market, all the money goes to the treasurer and they reallocate the funds,’ she said.

The market started above the douzaine room before moving a few doors down the road to the community hall, close to the Post Office, around 10 years ago.

A recent community plan for the parish saw the addition of new cafe in the Post Office as the number one option chosen by local residents.

‘With everyone saying they want a cafe in St Peter’s it’s a doubly good time to remind everyone that there is already somewhere in the parish to have a coffee on a Wednesday morning,’ she said.

‘We also have wonderful homemade cakes and many residents use the market as a meeting place.’

The market is open from 10-11am every Wednesday. Mrs Plumley can be contacted sarniaplumley@hotmail.com.
