115-strong cavalcade cheered by many along coastal route
MORE than 100 classic and military vehicles were part of the cavalcade which ran from Torteval Church to St Peter Port.
As the 115-strong procession arrived into Town, islanders lined grass banks to film, take photos or just watch and applaud the motorbikes, military trucks and classic cars, as they had all along the route.
Once it had come to a stop along the Quay, hundreds of children and adults lined up to pose with the vehicles.
Cavalcade director Jeff Vidamour was pleased with the turnout of spectators along the island route, in town, and from those driving in the cavalcade.
‘It has been excellent with no delays and everyone enjoyed it,’ he said.
‘There were lots of people along the route and a really good reception.
‘The weather’s been kind and it’s all about enjoying the day. Next year will be even bigger and we will be attracting people from around the continent.’
His grandson, nine-year-old Edison Naftel, said that he was excited to be part of the cavalcade.
‘I like that I got a day off school, I was at the front and the back at different times,’ he said.
Four-year-old Cayden Luxon was sitting in a classic vehicle once they were on display, and had his photo taken by mum Natasha.
‘He absolutely loves cars, we’re taking ages working our way through all of them. We had a picnic at L’Eree this morning and then came to Town for the cavalcade,’ said Ms Luxon. ‘Next year I’d expect a bigger and more central event.’
