Owner of closed restaurant promises to pay refunds
The owner of Koi Koi has confirmed that customers who have paid deposits to the now-closed business would get their money back.
Koi Koi restaurant and bar and Koi Koi Express closed abruptly a several weeks ago.
It left customers who had paid deposits for events later in the year out of pocket.
Owner Dominic Watson has now confirmed that about £1,850 had been paid in deposits.
‘These will be paid,’ he said in an email to the Guernsey Press.
‘I will place contact details on our website for the five affected customers to be able to contact me to obtain the refunds.
‘It has not been an easy task closing Koi Koi, it really was last-minute, not like the social media posts have said, which quite frankly is another reason why I chose to leave the island.
‘The toxicity and people thriving on the negative is unbelievable.’
He said he put six years into the business and spent £1.6m. on the project.
‘It didn’t work,’ he said.
‘I now I need learn to move on and to repair my life, and find a different path believe me.
‘It’s not easy. It has taken me these 22 days to really reflect on my life and try to figure out what I will do next.’
He confirmed he was now in the UK, looking for a job to support his family.
There had been some concern about fish kept in the restaurant, with people calling the GSPCA.
Mr Watson said they have been rehomed shortly after the closure.
A statement on the closure will be uploaded on to the restaurant’s website in due course.
The dim sum and sushi bar opened in 2019.
