The tractor, which was believed to have been cutting verges, ended up on its side by the loophole tower, which is on the cliff side of the narrow road.

The road is narrow and traffic is restricted in the area.

Beyond the loophole tower there is a sheer drop down to Saints Bay beside the road.

States Works has confirmed that one of its tractor drivers was involved in the incident and escaped without injury.

‘I am pleased to say that no-one was injured, but unfortunately one of our tractor drivers was involved in an incident that resulted in the vehicle overturning,’ said States Works senior operations manager Mark Torode.

‘This happened towards the end of Thursday afternoon, so we are still investigating the cause. The tractor was recovered yesterday and has undergone inspection. There is no damage and it has returned to operation today.’
