The King and Queen will not have the time on a half-day visit to go to the Bailiwick’s smaller islands.

But States of Alderney president William Tate and Policy & Finance Committee chairman Nigel Vooght, as well as Seigneur of Sark Christopher Beaumont, will ensure that both islands are represented in Guernsey on the day.

Mr Tate said that, while it was unfortunate that the King and Queen were not able to visit Alderney this time, it was a fantastic thing for the Bailiwick to be able to experience a royal visit. He was looking forward to conveying the spirit of Alderney in Guernsey.

‘I was in the crowd and shook hands with them on their last visit to the Bailiwick in 2012, they’re very engaging,’ he said.

He added that the States of Alderney was currently looking at how to arrange transport to Guernsey for people wanting to attend in person, and said that there would be an announcement in due course.

Mr Beaumont said that he was keen for as many Sarkees as possible to make the trip over to Guernsey, and would ensure that extra boats would be put on to and from the island if needed.

‘I’m delighted to hear they are coming, and if we can get the whole island to go over to see them that’d be fantastic. I hope it won’t just be me.’

He added that there would be some ceremonial events in Sark on the day to mark the visit, including a swearing of allegiance by himself and the Chief Pleas speaker Paul Armorgie.

‘I’m sure there will be plenty of other things going on too,’ he said.
