30 Bays in 30 Days began with its launch event at Vazon Bay on Monday evening, and attracted some 150 people ready to take a dip.

‘It was really good. The weather was a little cloudy and windy but the turnout was absolutely fantastic,’ said Catherine Boughay, of Les Bourgs Hospice.

‘There was a real mix of people, a lot more children which is really lovely as we have the Nine Bays in 30 Days for families.’

The Les Bourgs Hospice fundraiser also has an option for corporate teams to take part.

The challenge is flexible – participants must do a minimum of 30 strokes in 30 bays and the swims can be ticked off in any order, or can be swapped out for other locations if accessibility is a concern.

After the launch event at Vazon, there was an unticketed event at Vistas with live acoustic music and a mini menu of food options.

There is still time for people to register and take part in the event.

Les Bourgs Hospice does not receive any funding from the States of Guernsey so this fundraising event is a key income stream to ensure that it can continue to offer free, specialist palliative care and support to its patients and their families.
