Islanders can donate their unused glasses to a number of local opticians.

‘Access to proper vision care is a fundamental need that many people around the world still lack,’ said Lions Club of Guernsey president Robert Holder.

‘By relaunching our annual SpekTrek initiative, we aim to continue making a significant impact by recycling eyeglasses and giving the gift of sight to those who need it most.’

He added that the Lions Club of Guernsey was encouraging all Bailiwick residents to participate in the project.

‘Donating unused glasses is a simple yet impactful way to contribute to the community and support global vision health,’ he said

Opticians throughout Guernsey and Alderney are once again serving as designated drop-off points for glasses donations. The collected glasses will be sent off-island for processing, where they will be sorted and prepared for distribution to individuals in need.

‘Your old glasses could help improve the life and the eyesight of someone in India, Africa or anywhere around the world where they are needed,’ said membership chairman Paul Allaway.

‘Young and old alike can benefit from improved vision.’

Islanders have until 13 July to hunt out there old spectacles and pass them on.

Only glasses should be donated – cases and other items, such as cloths, cannot be accepted.
