Town at heart of royal visit as more details released
The Town seafront and Cambridge Park will form the heart of the upcoming Royal visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The couple are set to arrive on the seafront in the late morning on Tuesday 16 July, when islanders will be able to see the Royals and the King will preside over an outdoor States sitting.
A plaque will be unveiled on the Crown Pier and the Royals will have the chance to see a variety of local produce and meet the local lifeboat crews.
The public are invited to come and watch the Town events, but it is expected to be busy.
‘While we look forward to seeing as many people as possible, in the event of extremely high numbers of people attending, it may be necessary to restrict access in order to ensure the safety of all members of the community,’ a States spokesman said.
In preparation for the event, the seafront will remain closed following the Seafront Sunday throughout Monday and Tuesday, although the Monday is still a working day.
‘People are encouraged to use public transport, walk and cycle to the seafront on Tuesday,’ the States spokesman said.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Town bus terminus will temporarily relocate to North Beach. Buses will be operating a Saturday service on the Tuesday.
Islanders will have another chance to see the Royals in the afternoon.
A family event is being held at Cambridge Park, where the public can see the Royals on a big screen, as well as see them as they drive by on their way to visiting Les Cotils to meet delegations from Sark and Alderney
‘Some people may of course prefer not to be on the seafront when it will be very busy, such as people who have small children, or people who prefer to avoid crowds or long periods of standing.’
The visit is the King and Queen’s first following His Majesty’s Accession in September 2022.
Two live broadcasts - of the events in St Peter Port, and later at Les Cotils – will be available online on the States of Guernsey Facebook page and www.gov.gg/royalvisit2024.
