Waritsara Khongyim, known as Wally, will donate the cuttings to the charity, which makes real-hair wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other medical conditions.

She was inspired to start donating her hair after losing two people close to her to cancer.

Speaking at Toni & Guy in the Arcade yesterday as her hair was prepared into several plaits and cut by senior stylist Eshna Canagareddy, Miss Khongyim said that despite having donated to the charity on three previous occasions, she was more nervous this time because of the amount of money she had been able to raise.

‘This is the first time I’ve decided to fundraise so there’s more riding on it,’ she said.

‘However I completely trust Eshna, she always does my hair and does such a good job.’

Looking at each of the plaits laid out in front of her following the cut, Miss Khongyim was initially shocked at the sight, but was confident that she would soon get used to her new, shorter hairstyle.

‘It’ll grow back, it’s only hair,’ she said.

‘I love to look at the wigs that the trust makes on its website, knowing that I’m contributing to that is really special.’
