ESC plans for boundary fence at Les Varendes
Long stretches of mesh fencing could be installed along the boundary of the playing field at Les Varendes High School, to cut it off from the neighbouring Memorial Field.
A planning application has been submitted by Education, Sport & Culture for the work.
It would see 2.4m-high fencing stretch from the south-west corner of the Sixth Form Centre, along the boundary with the neighbouring playing fields, which are used by Elizabeth College for football, rugby and cricket. Currently only a knee-high bank or less divides the two sites in places.
A short stretch of fence would also go around a piece of land on the southern boundary.
An Education Capital Projects team spokesman said this would mark the boundary.
‘It will be a weld mesh fence,’ he said.
‘It is being installed as part of a package of works to upgrade security of the Les Varendes High School, as has been done with other schools across the island to enhance health and safety and safeguarding.
‘Other elements of this package have included new external doors on the school, which was an element of the phased work on the site which is taking place.’
The site has recently been rebranded as Les Varendes High School, having previously been known as the Grammar School.
The cost of the work has not been disclosed.
