Fort Grey was the unusual destination for the daytime wedding of Peter Le Noury and Katrina Le Noury-Hampson.

The couple said that they chose it because it is close to both their family homes, but they had to jump through a number of hoops to realise their dream.

‘We wanted an outdoor venue and we’ve both grown up along the west coast,’ said Mr Le Noury.

Ahead of the big day, Mrs Le Noury-Hampson said they were looking for the perfect venue.

‘We looked at a few other venues but they weren’t giving the right vibe. We chose Fort Grey because it is iconic.’

The couple said that the location gave good continuity in the case of bad weather, with the ultimate backup plan to head to Mr Le Noury’s nearby house to get married in his greenhouse.

‘There have been a few hiccups along the way, now we’re just hoping the weather holds out,’ said Mrs Le Noury-Hampson, the day before the ceremony.

The couple signed their marriage certificate on the cannon on the outside of the shipwreck museum.

‘You could call it a shotgun wedding,’ joked Mrs Le Noury-Hampson.

The couple had to be prepared to share their special day with holidaymakers and visitors to the Fort.

‘They advertise online that you can get married at any of the sites but didn’t mention that it had to be after 4.30pm [outside the operating hours]. So it will still be open while we get married,’ said Mr Le Noury.

He said that the Fort Grey site can officially accommodate 50 people.

Speaking after the wedding, Mrs Le Noury-Hampson said the day had gone perfectly.

‘It couldn’t have been better,’ she said. ‘We had an amazing day.’

With the fort still open to the public. there were a few visitors sitting on benches taking photos, said her husband.

The couple had not planned a honeymoon but said that they normally go to Thailand in December to visit Mrs Le Noury-Hampson’s sister and brother-in-law, so would be doing that again this year.

They thanked Guernsey Museums for allowing the wedding to take place during normal opening hours.
