The parish, which last won the local award in 2022, was named the best ‘large village’ in 2023’s Britain in Bloom competition.

The Lady Dorey Trophy – the prize for the coveted parish community competition – was handed over to the St Saviour’s Floral Group team, headed up by Liz Pirouet-Douglas, by Floral Guernsey chairman John Woodward at the annual Floral Guernsey awards dinner last night.

Mr Woodward said that the annual awards dinner at Les Cotils was a celebration and a thank you to all those communities and individuals whose projects have helped the Bailiwick look at its best for the benefit of visitors and locals.

About 100 floral volunteers and invited guests from Guernsey, Herm and Alderney attended the event at Les Cotils.

National RHS judge Rae Beckwith and local judge Jax Robin said they were both very impressed with the high standards throughout displayed across the island and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing the wide variety of gardening expertise and enthusiasm of the participants.

As well as the announcement of the overall winner, there were 13 other awards presented, as well as judges’ commendation certificates.

The Joc Watts Trophy, chosen by the Floral Guernsey Council and awarded to someone who has distinguished themselves over many years, was given to Ross Clarke from Queux Patio and the DH and ON Falla Trophy for the best Douzaine Office was presented to St Andrew’s.
