Winter pansies vandalised in St Martin’s
A PLANT vandal is on the loose after three boxes with more than 20 winter pansies were damaged in St Martin’s, less than 24 hours after being put out for the parish’s winter display.
The pansies were situated by the bus stop near Sausmarez Manor when they were vandalised sometime between 6pm on Monday evening and 7am yesterday morning.
A £500 reward is being offered to anyone who reports the offender to the police.
St Martin’s junior constable Dave Beausire said the plants formed part of the parish’s winter floral display, which has seen boxes of pansies placed at numerous locations around St Martin’s.
‘It’s unbelievable that someone would think to do this, especially so soon after they were put out,’ he said.
‘These boxes were actually the last to be finished as well.’
He was not holding out too much hope of the vandal being caught, but thought there may be a chance that whoever was responsible may have been caught on the bus stop’s CCTV camera.
He said he was most disappointed for the parish volunteers who had taken the time to create the display.
‘It takes hours of work to get it all ready and to have something like this happen so soon after finishing is very upsetting,’ he said.
