La Mare student’s poppies design to go on bus
AN IMAGE of two growing poppies will decorate a bus for the next year, after winning this year’s CT Plus design a poppy competition.
The winning entry was designed by 13-year-old Evie Langlois from La Mare De Carteret High School, who got to see her design in person when the bus came to her school yesterday.
Nearly 90 entries from Year 9 and 10 students came from La Mare De Carteret.
Inspired by images of poppies, Evie mixed some together to create her own in watercolour.
‘I think watercolour gives the best effect, it’s not in your face and it’s subtle,’ said the year nine pupil.
She added that she felt proud to win and was glad to represent La Mare De Carteret.
Evie is considering studying for art GCSE next year.
Every year, to mark Remembrance Day, CT Plus invites schools, clubs and groups across the island to design a poppy for the back of the poppy bus.
CT Plus has run the ‘design a poppy’ competition for the past six years.
‘This year is the first time a design with two poppies has been chosen,’ said CT Plus marketing manager Jon Ozanne.
Choosing the winning design was not easy but Evie’s poppy design was both subtle and powerful and stood out against the others, he said.
‘The design stays on the back for a year then it gets moved to the side of the bus and a new design goes on the back,’ said Mr Ozanne.
The designs of all the past winners are on the sides of the poppy bus.
This competition is important to CT Plus staff and drivers and celebrates new artwork each year going on the bus to capture young people’s imagination.
‘It’s great to have it going round the island,’ said Mr Ozanne.
Second place was awarded to Isaiah Grant, third place to Sophie McCreight and a special mention went to Lucas Robins.
