In-Dependence has its day in new premises
IN-DEPENDENCE has launched new premises to continue to support members of the community recovering from substance and alcohol use and gambling.
Formerly based at St Julian’s House, the charity has relocated to a more visible location at Unit 1, Tudor House in Mill Street.
‘We are launching our new premises in Mill Street. It sounds a bit peculiar for me to talk about launching when we’ve been around for 30 years or so,’ said business manager Tracey Rear.
‘For the past three decades, we have been delivering services in the community, developing services and trying to understand the problem that our clients and people in the community experience in relation to substances, alcohol or gambling.
‘We have tried to understand what contributes to developing these problems and what maintains these behaviours, whether that’s within the person or externally in the community.’
The charity has invested in training staff to be able to work on complex cases, she said.
The new premises has frosted glass on the outside to maintain some privacy, supplies of needles for exchanging by users, a group room and a private room.
‘Our vision for the future is to get to grips with what people are experiencing and make changes that matter to them,’ said Mrs Rear.
‘The location in Mill Street was an incredible opportunity that came along.’
