MoD wants more records research into possible location of WW2 UXBs
THE Ministry of Defence has requested further research of records relating to the possible location of three unexploded Second World War bombs along Route Isabelle, according to the local bomb expert at the centre of the saga.
Ben Remfrey, who alerted the island to the bombs in October, said the MoD – through its Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team – was continuing to consider a dossier he had provided it following a meeting he had on 28 October with States officials and civil servants, including Home Affairs president Rob Prow and former head of law enforcement Ruari Hardy.
‘I understand they [the MoD] have also requested further research of records by a separate technical team in the UK,’ Mr Remfrey said.
‘An update is awaited.’
He said he had been informed by a States official that such an update may not be received until the new year, after which the States would to decide on any potential further action.
‘I am hopeful that the time elapsed between October and December has been well used by MoD specialists in reviewing the case, and the fact that a “separate technical team” [is involved] is a positive step forward.
‘This matter has not gone away, it cannot be swept under the carpet again. Action needs to be taken early in 2025 for the safety of the public.’
