Every year the foundation has given children bikes as an unexpected Christmas present for local families, working with Social Services, HomeStart, Bright Beginnings, Help a Guernsey Child and Safer Guernsey.

‘We do this for families who would benefit from a lovely surprise at Christmas,’ said Sarah Groves Foundation managing trustee Vic Groves.

With the help of Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop, the charity has handed over the 30 bikes to the agencies it has worked with this year.

‘Many years ago it was a big thing to receive a bike for Christmas, and it is one of those bigger things that are more difficult to afford,’ said Kate Groves.

‘We never see where the bikes go as the children need protecting a lot of the time, but the feedback we do hear is very precious.

‘The money donated to us is done so in good faith and is spent wisely.’

Trustees from the Sarah Groves Foundation met with agency representatives for the handover.

‘It’s a beautiful gift for the children,’ said Teresa Bott, manager of Bright Beginnings Children’s Centre.

‘For some parents they can’t afford things like this and the bigger presents, so it is nice for the children to receive these.’

Bright Beginnings has been one of the many agencies who have benefitted from the initiative since it started.
