Among them will be Polar Bear Swim organiser and Guernsey Swimming Club committee member Kevin Penney.
‘The atmosphere is great,’ said Mr Penney.
‘It’s a perfect event for anybody, of all ages and even if you don’t get in the water, you may be having a hot chocolate.’
So far the weather and tides are looking good, which organisers and families who partake in the yearly tradition will be pleased to hear.
The annual event dates back more than 60 years and usually attracts more than 300 swimmers, but last year numbers far surpassed that.
‘It’s definitely become busier in recent years. I think a lot more people have become interested in sea swimming and it’s something fun to do with family and friends.’
Keeping the tradition alive has not been too much of a challenge for the Guernsey Swimming Club.
The swim brings in lots of families, even those that are abroad.
‘We get a lot of people whose families are away at Christmas and they will FaceTime each other whilst at the pools,’ said Mr Penney.
‘That way they can do their swim together even if it’s not in real time.’
The sea temperature is set to be around 10C next week.
The swim will start at 9.30am on Christmas morning.
‘You might only get one person from the family to swim, but the whole family comes.
'That’s why it’s such a nice event,’ Mr Penney added.
