The incident occurred just before 7pm, in wet and windy conditions on Victoria Road close to Millard & Co motorcycle dealership.

Police Sergeant Alex Simon, who attended the scene, said the small Hyundai car had been driving up the one-way road when it struck a parked vehicle and turned onto its side.

The driver had managed to free themselves from the car, but the passenger remained trapped inside.

Fire crews then used jacks to stabilise the car while they removed the passenger through the boot.

The occupants of the car were treated at the scene by paramedics, but were not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The road remained closed for almost two hours so the car could be righted and removed.
