Brittany Ferries’ inter-island tickets go on sale today

The company unveiled its schedule last November, when most other tickets went on sale.

But there has been uncertainty over the inter-island route.

Four ferry firms have now said they plan to offer inter-island sailings this summer – Brittany Ferries, Manche Iles, DFDS and Islands Unlimited.

Brittany Ferries’ inter-island ferry tickets are due to go on sale today, following further discussions between Brittany Ferries, DFDS, Manche-Iles Express and officers from Guernsey and Jersey.

Brittany Ferries will offer inter-island sailings on Wednesdays from the beginning of April.

Brittany Ferries had sought permission for these sailings in November and has now been told by Ports of Jersey that it can sell tickets on this route.

DFDS plans to also offer a weekly service, but this has not yet been confirmed.

Economic Development president Neil Inder is welcoming the development.

Deputy Inder said he knew there had been real frustration in both islands at the amount of time it has taken to announce inter-island sailings.

‘Brittany Ferries announced early on they would provide a Wednesday sailing, and I’m very pleased these will now go on sale this week,’ he said.

‘I also welcome DFDS's plans to also provide a weekly service.

'We are also working with Manche-Iles Express to provide some additional foot passenger inter-island services on specific dates where we know there will be a lot of demand because of inter-island sporting fixtures and other events.

‘That’s an ongoing discussion, but we’re hopeful that we can add some helpful one-off dates to the overall inter-island schedule for this year.’

He did not comment on Islands Unlimited, a newcomer to the market which last week announced it was purchasing a ferry to offer daily sailings for foot passengers between Guernsey and Jersey this summer.
