Girl Guides ‘travel around the world’ in a day
More than 200 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides enjoyed activities from different parts of the world as part of their World Thinking Day celebrations on Saturday.

The annual event is celebrated by Girl Scout groups around the world on 22 February.
The day’s theme was ‘travelling around the world’, and started with a trip through security and onto a ‘plane’ which had been set up in St Sampson’s High School.
‘There are different crafts and games going on from around the world, so we have activities for Malaysia, Brazil, Ghana and Finland,’ said Bailiwick commissioner Colette Merrien.

‘They started off the day with a safety briefing, before a “plane ride” to the different countries.
‘In Finland we have toilet seat tag, which is a game they play there, and for Brazil we have dancing.’
The girls had crafts to do for Ghana – making masks and woggles, the beaded ring to put around their scarves – and Malaysia, where they made turtles out of wool and lollipop sticks.
‘I’ve made a mask which has been fun and we have done some singing and played some games, which has been fun,’ said Ava De La Rue, 7.

Zahra Kiaie, 12, was making a woggle.
‘Some guides wear woggles which are made out of beads and we are doing them in the colours of Ghana’s flag,’ she said.
The Trefoil Guild was there to help with the activities.
‘We did the security at the beginning and have helped with the activities,’ said chairwoman Jenny Falla.
‘It has been really good and they all seem to have really enjoyed it. Trefoil love to be included.’
