FUTURE GUERNSEY is not going to become a political party and will not be fielding candidates in June’s general election.

But Gavin St Pier, the movement’s ‘political adviser’, will stand fully endorsing the full manifesto that Future Guernsey unveiled this week and has invited other like-minded candidates to join him in that commitment.

Deputy St Pier said that local electoral laws are designed for individual candidates and were not properly set up for parties.

‘Future Guernsey cannot and will not become a party,’ he said.

‘It is very clear and the Future Guernsey board have made it clear that it will not be endorsing or supporting any candidates in the election. However whether any candidates in the election wish to endorse and support the Future Guernsey manifesto is a different matter entirely.

'Hopefully there will be individuals who want to do what I’m willing to do and adopt this draft manifesto in its entirety.’

Deputy St Pier said that ‘manifestos’ were commonplace around election time from pressure groups.

The Association of Guernsey Charities held an event last night unveiling its ‘manifesto’ to would-be candidates.

The island’s business organisations have also teamed together to raise issues that they want candidates to be aware of.
