100 years celebrated by Alderney WI

ALDERNEY WI may not draw its members from the largest pool in the federation, but it has always been one of the Bailiwick's strongest groups.

It is currently celebrating 100 years, of the WI with an exhibition charting the history of the organisation life within the island's chapter. The exhibition, in the upstairs gallery of the Alderney Society Museum, features albums of photos chronicling its life 63-year history, proudly set out on its hand-stitched Alderney WI tablecloth.

Alderney WI was formed on 6 February in1952 at the Grand Hotel. Approximately 50 women attended the meeting, and it was chaired by Lady Sherwell, president of the Guernsey Federation of Women's Institutes. Also at the meeting was Lady Dyer of the National Federation.
