Friendship was main course for TV diners
WHEN keen cooks Bobbie Allen and Jamie McNiven-Young competed against two Guernsey couples for Channel 4's Come Dine With Me, they thought friendship would be firmly on the back burner.
But the show sparked the start of a warm relationship with their TV rivals – and they will all be meeting up for the third time in coming weeks.
Teacher Bobbie and her guitarist husband Jamie answered an advert for the couples version of the cult culinary show in May.
After a rigorous application process – off the menu was Bobbie's signature hot and sour soup and lavender cheesecake, deemed stale fare these days by producers, by the afternoon of Friday 26 June the pair were on their way to Guernsey.
Appearing on the show was Welsh-born Bobbie's idea. 'Jamie didn't know about it until three days before the interview,' she revealed. 'But we had watched the programme and we had liked the programme. We enjoy trying things that take us out of our comfort zone.
'We had looked into being on Bargain Hunt – but there's a five-year wait for that.'
