Herm, Sark and Alderney part of Commonwealth Baton tour
THE Commonwealth Games baton visited Herm, Sark and Alderney as part of its tour of the Channel Islands.
British bowling champion Deputy Garry Collins carried it into Alderney's harbour on the Guernsey lifeboat where staff and pupils from St Anne's School had gathered to cheer its arrival.
In Sark, the baton was greeted by Catherine Doyle who carried it on the 'toast rack' to the top of Harbour Hill before she walked it through the Avenue to the island's school.
Along the way the 16-year-old also stopped off at the island's gold post box – a legacy of Olympic gold medalist Carl Hester.
Chris Harvey of the RNLI took the baton ashore at Rosaire Steps in Herm.
Residents were given the opportunity to hold the lattice-framed piece at the White House Hotel.
Pupils at Herm School also gave a short presentation on what they have been learning about the Commonwealth Games.
Student Eden Latter, 11, said: 'It has been really exciting. We have been learning about the Commonwealth for a couple of weeks.'
'I was allowed to hold it but it was very heavy.'
