SARK is set to compete in the Floral Guernsey Community Competition for the first time in 10 years.

Its entry this season means all four of the Bailiwick islands are involved and a range of projects have been carried out in Sark, including planting initiatives and the clearing of invasive species.

Led by a steering group of six residents, a number of local people got involved in some of the first environmental and horticultural projects last year to test the water, and a well-supported public meeting in January showed there was a clear appetite to enter this year.

Conseiller Jan Guy, who is a member of the steering group, Sark Community Blooms, said it had chosen its logo as the sand crocus, a tiny wild flower, which was rare, but flourishing on Sark.
