THE new owner of C&W in Guernsey has said that it has no plans to cut staff locally once the acquisition is completed.

Batelco Group, the company behind Bahrain Telecommunications, bought the majority of the assets of Cable & Wireless Communications' Monaco and Islands business unit at the beginning of December for $680m.

The deal is subject to regulatory approval and should be completed by the end of CWC's financial year. Representatives of Batelco are expected to pay a first visit to the islands in January.

Peter Kaliaropoulos, chief executive officer, strategic assignments at Batelco Group, pictured, said it was inappropriate to discuss specific plans until the deal was completed.
