A CYCLE-to-work scheme running in Guernsey is mirroring an initiative developed by the UK government.

Ian Brown's Cycle Shop revived the scheme for last month's Bike to Work Week.

It saw the shop 'partner' with businesses to offer discounts on bicycles to be paid for through wage deductions from the business.

'There has been great credence given to the scheme in the UK by the government. It has been successful and we thought it looked a good idea,' said shop owner Ian Brown.

'It has worked for us, it has brought us some new clients. The best response we had from one business was 17 bikes sold and we try to get more people to consider bikes than probably would have done normally.'
